About Spacerhop
Spacershop.com was born in 2019 but its story begins in 2013
when Giacomo Pinzoni, mechanical engineer and car enthusiast, created the first steering wheel spacer for his car, because he did not like the driving position.
Since 2013 the steering wheel spacer has been produced inside Giacomo’s family business
where he worked as a engineer, after carrying out a couple of company’s positions since his graduation year 2005: technical designer, warehouse worker, assembler, CNC operator, workshop manager and project manager.
The passion for cars, both sporty and vintage, the love for driving and for modifying cars, led to the invention of the steering wheel spacer; while the technical-working experience made it been manage since the beginning as a quality industrial product.
Steering wheel spacer Development
Since the first prototype made back in the days, the production method is the same used for all other items built inside the family company:
01. Design with and Solidworks 3D software
Drawings are made starting by reverse engineering on OEM steering wheels and steering column.
02. Technical drawing made with Autocad
After 3D design, the next step is to make the technical drawings using Autocad.
03. Production of the first prototypes
First prototype is made both by 3D printing or CNC manufacturing directly.
04. Assembly and installation tests
Before we make Spacershop steering wheel spacers available to people, we carry out assembly and installation tests mating on OEM steering wheel, column and clockspring assembly.
Spacershop’s growth around the world
After this, things came by themselves: as car enthusiasts, attending car meetings, writing on forums and social media, both Italian and English, brought the steering wheel spacer to the knowledge of people, who, sharing the same need to have a more comfortable and funny car to drive, pushed us to expand the range.
Having traveled worldwide since the age of 11 (joining my father on business trips) and mastering the English language, was a huge help gaining trust of foreign markets, and after a few years the production of steering wheel spacers has grown a lot.
We therefore decided to set up our own business and dedicate ourselves to this product.
We replicated the industrial reality we came from, the small and medium-sized Italian family business, adapting it to the production of steering wheel spacers and to the automotive sector.
Spacershop headquarters
400 square meters covers warehouse, workshop, technical office and administration.
We store finished products, raw materials, and over 100 OEM steering wheels and columns to use as test fit tools during production.
Technical dept uses Autocad, Solidworks, and Esprit CAD CAM software
In 2022, a DOOSAN CNC twin-spindle lathe with motorized tools has been purchased.
In 2024, a BIGLIA CNC twins spindle lathe with motorized tools and Y axis is added to our fleet.
Production is both for the warehouse and on demand, to supply e-commerce customers and resellers.
We always produce everything in series, never single pieces.
There is no convenience in producing individual parts and with series production we always ensure repeated quality, a low price for the end customer and ready (or reasonable) availability in stock.
The assembly area is next to the warehouse (to avoid long handling of parts), and each product is assembled last-minute before being shipped.
