Porsche 964 Adapter for 991 steering wheel

The steering wheel adapter is a kit that makes possible to install, on a Porsche 964, a steering wheel from a younger Porsche.

Why?

To update the interior look and retain OEM overall interior appearance and elegance.

Does it work as a steering wheel spacer too? What’s the benefit?

The adaptor is made mating parts from a 964 and a 991 steering wheel spacer. Because of this, it brings the steering wheel 2″ (5 cm) closer to the driver, allowing to drive with the seat all backwards (with the consequent benefits for the legroom), and still holding the steering wheel naturally, without stretching the arms.

The driver’s sensation is godsend.

We recommend not to connect the new airbag to the connector of the 964, the operation of the new type airbag with the old type electronics is not guaranteed. Let’s remember that 25+ years pass between the 2 generations. In any case, it should be remembered that on all cars, not only Porsche, the functionality of the airbag is no longer guaranteed after 15 or more years, due to chemical decay of the properties of the pyrotechnic gas inside.

The adapter is only mechanical: if you get a 991 steering wheel with the buttons for radio and cruise control, it will not be possible to adapt them on the 964, which did not have them, so it lacks the relative electronics.
